The Lacks Family is proud to collaborate with Halifax County-South Boston NAACP Chapter to honor Henrietta Lacks in her hometown through the Henrietta Lacks Hometown Initiative.
As a young child, Henrietta's mother passed away, and she moved to be raised by her grandfather on a tobacco farm in her beloved "Lackstown" in Clover, Halifax County, Virginia.
Today, Halifax County continues to honor Henrietta's legacy by preserving local historic sites such as her childhood home, grave, school, and church, while fundraising to erect a statue in the heart of the community in 2023, sharing her story with Virginians, and inviting the world to learn about the roots of her impact.
Your support helps to raise the statue honoring our hometown hero Henrietta Lacks.
